I’ve worked in NetSuite for 10 years now, and 7 of those have been in an Administrator role. I’ve seen both scenarios: a company hired a full-time NetSuite Administrator but wasn’t sure how to keep them busy. They were doing 10 hours/week worth of work for a 40 hour/week salary. The value to dollar ratio was too low to justify keeping them on. The result was a decrease in NetSuite data quality and satisfaction.
The other approach was hiring an outside consulting firm. They had a team of experts, all adorned with impressive-sounding titles. But it was too formal, too rigid, and still very expensive. Oftentimes the members of the team were replaced with new members, which stifled relationship development. There were lots of meetings, lots of discussions, lots of testing…but like a hamster in a wheel, a lot of hard work going nowhere. Dealing with the consulting team became more anchor than asset. Again, the value to dollar ratio was too low.
